The Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching. Traditional folk celebrations of this festival in China vary widely, among which "Bó Bǐng" (Mooncake Gambling Game) stands out as a unique Mid-Autumn tradition originating from Southern Fujian, with a history spanning centuries. The game involves throwing six dice, where the number of red "four" dots largely determines the winner. Prizes are named after imperial examination titles: Xiù Cái (Candidate), Jǔ Rén (Graduate), Jìn Shì (Doctor), Tàn Huā (Third Rank), Bǎng Yǎn (Second Rank), and Zhuàng Yuán (Top Scholar).
On September 10, Xiamen Mairdi Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. held its annual "Bó Bǐng Banquet" to celebrate this lively cultural tradition.
Over 300 Mairdi employees gathered for this festive event, filling the venue with the familiar faces of colleagues they work alongside day in and day out. The "Bó Bǐng" activity was organised table by table, with 10 participants per table. Once a table was full, the game began.
Those who arrived early started arranging prizes on the tables and distributing shopping bags as part of the pre-game preparations.
As colleagues gradually filled the venue, the "Bó Bǐng" games commenced one after another. Amid the lively atmosphere, everyone exchanged wishes for good luck in winning favourable ranks. Every roll of the dice drew eager attention, and winning a desirable title was met with cheers and celebration. The festive spirit continued to rise with the announcement of each new prize winner.
Winning the "Zhuangyuan (Top Scholar)" prize is particularly challenging, though it occasionally occurred that multiple players at the same table achieved this title. After all prizes were claimed, those who rolled "Zhuangyuan" compared their dice results, and the one with the highest-ranking score ultimately won the grand prize. Once all tables completed the game and crowned their "Zhuangyuan" winners, the "Bó Bǐng" activity concluded successfully. Everyone gathered their prizes and prepared for the banquet that was about to begin.
